VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- The Rowan Volleyball closed out play at Batten's Marlin Invitational on Saturday with a split as the team went 3-1 over the weekend. The Profs fell to Millikin, 3-1, before wrapping up the trip with a 3-0 sweep of William Peace.
Millikin (25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21)
Jessica Smart recorded a match-best 16 kills, while
Abby Chadwick kicked in eight and Audrey Bivona and
Hutton Cordrey each added five.
Nia Ipeker posted nine digs.
The Big Blue went up 1-0 after an 11-4 run erased a 15-14 Prof lead in the first set. Rowan totaled 13 kills, including five from Smart in the second to even things at 1-1. Kyra Corrothers and Gabriella Ricci combined for seven kills in the third set for Millikin.
In the fourth set, the Profs ran off seven-straight points to knot things up at 14-14, before the Big Blue answered with five in a row to reclaim the lead for good.
Corrothers led five players with five or more kills with a team high 10.
William Peace (25-10, 25-17, 25-13)
The Profs racked up 37 kills and 14 aces in the three-set sweep.
Chadwick (11), Smart (10), and
Alexa Kelleher (10) all reached double-digit kills. Setter
Raven Albrecht served up a career-best eight aces and added 31 assists. Chadwick's 11 digs also gave her a double-double, her second of the weekend.
Next up for the Profs is the Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann next weekend. Action gets underway on Friday against Widener before matches on Saturday against Arcadia and Ursinus.
