ASTON, PA -- Rowan kicked off play at the Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-10) victory over Widener Friday afternoon.
Jessica Smart paved the way with a match-high 16 kills while
Abby Chadwick added a double-double (11 kills/10 digs) in the win.
The Profs (4-2) fought through a wild first set, erasing a 17-10 deficit. Smart's ninth kill of the set made it 25-24 before a Widener service error put Rowan up, 1-0.
The second set saw Rowan hold off a late push from the Pride before a dominating third set where the Profs led from start to finish in earning its fourth win on the year.
Raven Albrecht kicked in 35 assists and
Gabriella Cooper totaled 11 digs. Chadwick also served up five of the team's nine aces.
Gabriella Bottino led Widener (0-4) with seven kills.
The team is right back at it tomorrow at Neumann with a 10 a.m. match against Arcadia and a noon match vs. Ursinus.
