GLASSBORO, NJ -- #4 Rowan improved to 5-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 victory over Montclair State Wednesday night.
The Profs, already off to its best start in program history, now improve to 10-0 on the season.
Cailey Bozinis and
Sara Wiedeman netted first-half goals for Rowan while the defense squeezed the Red Hawks (9-3-1, 3-2 NJAC) in the second half to come away with the conference victory.
Rowan struck early in the contest as Bozinis was in the right place at the right time, easily knocking in her fourth goal of the year after an initial save off a short cross in the box.
Angela Oliveto drew the assist as the score came just 2:22 into the contest.
Montclair State goalie Mackenzie Sibello recorded a career-best 10 saves, needing all 10 to help keep it a one-goal game.
Bozinis later set up Wiedeman for the senior's team-leading eighth tally on the season in the 18th minute. The senior found a lane on a through ball and buried one in the right corner from just outside the 18.
Just over six minutes later, the Profs were called for a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. MSU's Kaylee Lauber was able to beat Rowan keeper
Enya Carthy to cut the lead to one.
Late in the second half, Sibello kept it 2-1, frustrating the Profs' two chances right in front of the cage. Sibello made six of her 10 stops in the final 45 minutes.
Next up for the Rowan is a trip to Kean on Saturday for an NJAC tilt beginning at 1 p.m.
