Poles took over the women's basketball program for the 2019-20 season.  In his first year, he guided the Profs to a 25-4 record, the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.  He was named the NJAC Coach of the Year and d3hoops.com Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.  Prior, he had served as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team for three seasons.

Poles also was an assistant coach for the Rowan men's basketball team when he returned to the University for three seasons.  He coached basketball in Sweden and Italy for 10 years after a successful playing career of seven years.

At Rowan, Poles played for the 1996 National Championship Basketball Team.  He was the starting center and led the team in rebounds.  In addition, he was a member of the St. Joseph's basketball team his freshman year.

In 2020, Delsea Regional High School retired Pole's uniform number 44 and he was the first athlete to receive the honor.  Poles was the South Jersey Player of the Year his senior season and helped Delsea to the NJSIAA State Group II Championship.
