GLASSBORO, NJ -
Gracie Merrick scored early in the second overtime to give #23 Rowan a 2-1 win over visiting Messiah. It is the Profs' seventh straight win and their first since returning to the Top 25 this week, improving to 7-3 on the year.
The winning goal came on a penalty corner when Merrick sent the insert pass to
Sydney Kowalczyk, who dribbled towards the cage, and found Merrick on the far post. The senior tapped it in for her second double overtime gamewinner in two weeks, as she helped the Profs defeat #24 Swarthmore on September 23rd.
The Profs trailed almost immediately as Messiah (3-5) got on the board quickly on a goal by Chelsea Carlisle just 1:59 into the match.
Rowan tied it in the third quarter at 38:01 as Kowalczyk blasted a shot on a corner as
Aurelia McManis earned the assist with the insert pass. It was sophomore's team-best seventh goal of the season.
The teams were evenly matched throughout with Rowan holding a slight 11-9 edge in shots while
Ella Morton made three saves in the cage.
The defending NJAC Champion Profs open conference play on Friday at home against Ramapo with a 6 p.m. start time.
