PRESS CONFERENCE: ROWAN | COLBY
The Profs (42-9) won the best-of-three series after
Thursday's 1-0 walk-off win followed by its third postseason shutout in a row on Friday to head back to the championship round for the tenth time in program history.
Eight NCAA Super Regional winners will convene in Salem, Virginia to start action in the double elimination format on Thursday, May 28th. Pairings will be announced by Sunday.
Super regional most valuable player
Zoey Rogers and most valuable pitcher
Emily McCutcheon sparked Rowan's run, as the team has hosted the two-team format at home for the third-consecutive season.
Rogers was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base while McCutcheon allowed just one hit and struck out four batters as the senior entered in the fourth inning, helping the Profs escape a huge threat from the Mules (30-14).
Ava Fisher smacked her team-leading ninth home run of the year in the top of the first inning to plate Rogers and give the Profs, who were designated as the away team, an early 2-0 lead.
The Prof defense finessed itself out of four innings of scoring chances by the Mules on the day. Colby threatened with a runner at third and less than two outs in its first two at-bats but could not get on the scoreboard.
Rogers added to the lead as she scored from second on
Kate Evick's RBI single in the third. Once again, Colby put together its biggest charge in the bottom half, loading the bases off of
BethAnne Doderer, but McCutcheon entered with two outs and induced a groundout to squash any scoring chances. Doderer (20-4) was credited with the win, scattering six hits and a walk over 3.2 innings.
Colby starter Sharlotte Stazinski (10-7) allowed the three runs (two earned) on five hits with two K's and a walk before being lifted after Evick's RBI single.
From there, McCutcheon kept the Colby hitters from going beyond second base on in the sixth and seventh innings and would end it on a strikeout to start the celebration.
