Women's Basketball Can't Complete Comeback in 58-49 loss to William Paterson

GLASSBORO, NJ -- A strong fourth quarter run by Rowan could not bring them all the way back as they fell to New Jersey Athletic Conference leading William Paterson by a final score of 58-49 on Saturday afternoon.

William Paterson (19-1; 13-0 NJAC) had a slight 14-9 lead after one quarter of play as it made 5-of-11 field goat attempts.

Trailing 18-13 in the second quarter, Rowan (12-8; 8-5 NJAC) put together a quick 7-2 run to pull within, 20-19 with under two minutes to go. The Pioneers pushed ahead, 23-19, but the Profs scored five of the last seven points of the half to trail, 25-24, at halftime. Rowan finished the quarter hitting 45 percent from the field and limiting WP to just 28 percent.

William Paterson stretched its lead to 33-25 in the third quarter before finishing out the quarter up 44-32, having outscored the Profs by 16-8 in the frame.

The Pioneers built their lead to as much as 15 before Rowan rattled off a 14-2 run to make the score 50-47. The Profs could not get any closer as William Paterson closed out the final 3:26 of play on an 8-2 run to seal their victory.

Charlotte Carlies lead all Rowan scorers with 11 points while pulling down 13 rebounds. Haley Selmer also contributed eight points.

Rowan heads on the road on Wednesday to meet up with Kean and will be back in Esby Gym on Saturday, February 7th to host Ramapo at 1 p.m., for Senior Day.
