Six Profs Earn Accolades from the NJAC in Weekly Honors

GLASSBORO, NJ -- A total of six Rowan student-athletes earned weekly accolades from the New Jersey Athletic Conference for the week ending January 21st.

In indoor men's track & field, Marquise Young was selected the NJAC Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week. Teammate Jamile Gantt scored the NJAC Field Athlete of the Week honors. Ja'Zere Noel picked up the NJAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week award. In women's swimming, Ella Pennington garnered the NJAC Swimmer of the Week with teammate Kaitlyn Crouthamel chosen the NJAC Rookie of the Week. And finally, Gavin Danze was selected as the NJAC Men's Swimming Rookie of the Week.

Young set a school record in the 60 meter hurdles at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday, as his time of 7.96 broke the previous record of 7.98 set back in 2017. Young's time also ranks him #2 in Division III and goes down as the 12th fastest in DIII history.

Gantt was fourth in the high jump at the same meet, notching a #11 DIII best mark this year (2.00 meters).

Noel, a senior forward, averaged 32.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in the Profs' 1-1 week, while notching the 1,000th point of his Rowan career. On Wednesday, Noel totaled 29 points and 13 rebounds in the 109-99 loss at Stockton and followed that with 35 points and 11 rebounds in the 112-79 win over William Paterson for his team-best 11th double-double of the season on Saturday. In the second half of that game, he scored his 1,000th point to become the 30th Prof to reach the plateau while he now has exactly 1,000 points in two seasons.

Pennington won four events in the win over TCNJ on Saturday; the 100 back (57.09), 200 back (2:05.57), the 200 IM (2:08.61) and was part of the 200 medley relay (1:49.67). This is the second time this season the sophomore has been cited by the conference in its weekly awards.

Crouthamel earns her first weekly accolade, capturing two events against TCNJ. The freshman placed first in both the 200 (2:27.79) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.48) as the Profs took down the Lions, 178-70.

Danze took second in the 1000 free (9:41.51) and fourth in the 500 free (4:47.39) vs TCNJ on Saturday, but the Profs fell to the #13 ranked Lions.

This weekend, the men's and women's indoor track & field teams return to action on Friday for the two-day Columbia University Challenge up at Ocean Breeze and on Saturday at the Seamus McElligott Invitational at Haverford. The men's basketball team (13-5, 7-4 NJAC) travels to TCNJ on Wednesday before a home date with Ramapo on Saturday here at Esbjornson Gymnasium. Men's and women's swimming travels to Swarthmore on Saturday for its final regular season meet.
