GLASSBORO, NJ -- The New Jersey Athletic Conference awarded player of the week honors to
Marquise Young and
Ja'Zere Noel for the week ending January 14th. Young was selected the NJAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Week while Noel captured the NJAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Young had quite the day at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartan Invitational at Ocean Breeze on Friday, competing in the 60 meter hurdles, 200 meters, and 4x200 meter relay. His 60 meter hurdle time of 8.10 seconds is among the top six in NCAA Division III and he currently owns the No. 3 time in the nation from before the winter break (8.02). He set a new personal record in the indoor 200m, clocking a 22.43, ranking as the fastest in the NJAC and second-fastest in the Metro Region this season. Young also ran a leg of the 4x200 relay that posted D3's third-fastest time of the year (1:30.13).
Noel averaged 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in Profs' 2-0 week, going 13-for-24 from the field, 4-for-10 from three-point range and 19-for-21 from the foul line in the two wins. Started off the week with 30 points and 12 rebounds as Rowan pulled out a 98-88 overtime win vs. Montclair State, where he also made 14-of-16 free throws. Finished the week with 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals in 95-56 win over Rutgers-Newark on Saturday. This season, Noel is averaging 21.3 points and 9.5 rebounds on the season.
The men's and women's indoor track & field teams will see action this Friday at the FastTrack Invite back at Ocean Breeze and again on Saturday, at the Ursinus Collegeville Classic. The men's basketball team (12-4, 6-3 NJAC) travels to Stockton on Wednesday before a home game vs. William Paterson on Saturday.
