Zane Selected as Academic All-Area Softball Performer of the Year; August Scores All-Academic Honors

PHILADELPHIA -- Morgan Zane scored the 2022 PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Softball Performer of the Year award, joining teammate Emily August on the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area team announced on Thursday.

The team is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In order for a student-athlete to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, he/she must be in at least their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better.

Zane was a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America in 2022 as well as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-America Third Team selection. She was previously named a CoSIDA Academic All-District Team selection after the 2021 campaign and has been a first-team All-NJAC selection the last three years consecutively.

An elementary education and writing arts major, Zane was a first-team All-Region and first-team All-NJAC choice in 2022. The senior started all 45 games, batting .358 with 39 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 42 RBI, and 19 walks. The team captain led the Profs and was ranked in the top five in the NJAC in multiple offensive categories including doubles, home runs, and RBI.

August, an also elementary education major, was also a back-to-back member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team as well as the 2022 NJAC Pitcher of the Year. This season, the senior boasted a 20-6 record in 25 starts with a league-leading 1.61 ERA and a conference-high 169 strikeouts in 169.2 innings thrown. The pair helped Rowan to its 11th NJAC championship in 2022, and a spot in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship field, finishing with a 35-10 overall record.

Joining Zane and August on the Academic All-Area Team was West Chester's Grace Aguilar and Madison Melvin, Mackenzie Brennan of Ursinus, Drexel's Kristi DiMeo, Swarthmore's Gwen Glatz, Villanova's Megan Kern and Paige Rauch, Haverford's Abby Marquis, and Gabrielle Simms of University of the Sciences.
