GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan Athletics honored its finest at the annual All-American Awards Banquet recognizing the student-athletes who received All-American or Academic All-American honors in 2021-22, while also handing out special awards to highlight athletic and academic achievements.
Gianna Rusk (women's lacrosse) and John Maldonado (football) received the Joy Solomen Leadership Award, recognizing strong leadership qualities and exhibit dedication and passion to Rowan Athletics.
Rusk was the anchor of Rowan's defense this year and was named to the IWLCA All-Boardwalk Region Second Team while earning All-NJAC First Team honors for the first time in her career. The senior is also a Rowan Scholar-Athlete of Distinction and has been named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
Maldonado (Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) put together his best season as a Prof catching 64 passes for 873 yards and seven touchdowns to earn selection to the All-NJAC First Team. He was also named to the Philadelphia Academic All-Area Football Team and is a Rowan Scholar-Athlete of Distinction.
Molly Gorczyca (field hockey) was chosen to receive the Dr. Mary Rice Scholar-Athlete Award, given to the female student-athlete who possesses excellence in athletic ability, attitude, and dedication to her sport, while also demonstrating high moral and ethical standards.
Gorcyzca earned NFHCA All-America First Team honors this season, was a first-team All-Region honoree and was named the NJAC Defender of the Year, as she helped Rowan reach the NCAA Semifinals. The senior was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team while being chosen to the NFHCA All-Academic squad and receiving the "Most Courageous" Award from the Philadelphia Sportswriters Association.
Eric DiDomenico (baseball) received the Dr. Michael Briglia Scholar-Athlete Award, given to the male student-athlete who possesses excellence in athletic ability, attitude, and dedication to his sport, while also demonstrating high moral and ethical standards.
DiDomenico turned in his best season as a senior, setting new career-highs in every offensive category, while tying for the team lead with nine home runs. He helped the 10
th-ranked Profs, who captured the NJAC regular-season title, win the NCAA Annville Regional and earn a berth in the NCAA Super Regional.
Kristiina Castagnola (field hockey) earned the Dr. Shirley O'Day Award, presented to the female student-athlete who is in good academic standing and demonstrates outstanding athletic achievement, leadership in women's sports and/or campus, cooperation, and a good general attitude.
The graduate student was an NFHCA All-America First Team selection this season, while also being named the Region IV Player of the Year and the NJAC Midfielder of the Year. The leading scorer for the fourth-ranked Profs, Castagnola was also chosen to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 At-Large Team and was the Philadelphia Academic All-Area Field Hockey Performer of the Year.
Jah'mere Beasley (men's track & field) and Kevin Gillooly (men's swimming) both received the Richard Wackar Award, which is presented to the male student-athlete who is in good academic standing and demonstrates outstanding athletic achievement, leadership in men's sports and/or campus, cooperation and a good general attitude.
Beasley captured All-America honors during both the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons this year highlighted by his being a member of the 4x400 relay team that won the NCAA Indoor Championship in in March. The sophomore also earned NJAC All-Conference accolades and All-Region accolades.
This season Gillooly brought home a Division III title as he was the national champion in the 50 meter freestyle at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. He also earned four other All-America honors at the meet helping lead the Profs to a 10th-place team finish. Gillooly also captured the top awards from the NJAC as its Male Swimmer of the Year and from the Metropolitan Conference as the Male Swimmer of the Meet.
Rowan also boasts a total of six NCAA Champions in 2021-22 as Gillooly is joined by the members of the Profs' 4x400 relay that took home the title at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
