NJAC Weekly Awards Feature Six Prof Student-Athletes

PITMAN, NJ -- Six Rowan student-athletes picked up weekly honors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference for the week ending May 1st.

Emily August was named the NJAC Softball Pitcher of the Week. In men's outdoor track & field, Greg Poloso was selected the NJAC Field Athlete of the Week with teammate Treshan Stevenson the NJAC Rookie of the Week. Jasmine Broadway captured the NJAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. In women's lacrosse, Gianna Rusk (NJAC Defensive Player of the Week) and Molly Green (NJAC Rookie of the Week) scored two marque awards as well.

August went 3-0 in the circle, getting two wins on two complete-game shutouts and a victory in relief to nab her third player of the week honor this season. The senior tossed 18.1 scoreless innings with 20 K's, two walks, and eight hits as opponents batted just .127 in three appearances. In the 4-0 win in game one at Ramapo on Thursday, August fired a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and just one walk. She entered in game two, spinning 4.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win. Her best performance came in game one vs. NJCU on Saturday, fanning 10 with no walks, firing a perfect game until a leadoff single in the sixth for the only hit yielded.

Poloso bettered his school record and top NJAC mark in the javelin at the TCNJ Lion Invite over the weekend clearing 70 meters (70.39m) for the #7 DIII all-time record.

Stevenson ran a season best (53.94s) in the 400 hurdles also at the TCNJ Lion Invite, claiming the #2 NJAC and #15 DIII mark.

Broadway turned in a season-best time of 25.84s in the 200 meters at the TCNJ Lion Invite on Saturday.

Rusk, a senior co-captain, keyed the defense, totaling four ground balls and five caused turnovers in the wins over Stockton and Montclair State as the Profs allowed just 10 goals in a 2-0 week and extended its win streak to five games. The victories helped clinch the #2 seed in the NJAC Championship.

Green earns top rookie honors for the sixth time this season and the fourth consecutive week. She had four goals and three assists in two wins last week. The freshman attack player also totaled 10 draw controls and three caused turnovers. Against Stockton, Green had two goals and three assists in 20-13 win and notched two goals and seven draw controls in the 18-7 win at Montclair State. She is the team's fourth leading scorer this season with 28 goals and 13 assists.

All of our spring teams begin its postseason quests as baseball, softball, and women's lacrosse all host first-round games. On Tuesday, baseball battles Ramapo at 3:30 p.m. while softball tackles Montclair State starting at 4 p.m. Women's lacrosse will play at home on Wednesday against Stockton in a 6 p.m. start.
