PITMAN, NJ -- The New Jersey Athletic Conference honored four Rowan Student-Athletes in its weekly awards.
Nicole Mallard was selected the NJAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Kevin Yanagisawa was selected the NJAC Men's Swimmer of the Week with teammate
Tobias Cahnbley being named the NJAC Men's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week. Lastly,
Natalina Baldinazzo was chosen the NJAC Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week.
Mallard scored 20 points each in two games, while averaging eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals and shooting over 60% in a 2-0 NJAC week including two road wins. In Wednesday's victory at Montclair, Mallard went 8-for-14 shooting while kicking in eight boards, three assists and three steals. She capped the week with another 20-point performance in the win at Ramapo. Mallard again snared eight rebound and added a season-high five assists and three steals.
Yanagisawa won two events and took third in another to help Rowan to a 129-54 NJAC win at Ramapo on Thursday. The senior won the 500 free (5:03.16) and the 100 butterfly (53.80) while taking third in the 200 free (1:51.24).
Cahnbley nabbed two first-place individual honors as well as one in the relays. The rookie was first in the 200 free (1:47.22) and 100 backstroke (53.21). He then teamed
Danny Dubij,
Kevin Gillooly, and
Matt DeGennaro in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:37.81.
Baldinazzo was also impressive at the meet with Ramapo last week. The freshman scored a first place finish in the 200 free (2:04.56) and a second place in the 100 fly (1:03.70) and later helped stop the clock at 1:58.68 in the 200 medley relay with teammates
Emma Padros,
Natalie Smith, and
Elizabeth Jones.
The women's basketball team (10-5, 8-1 NJAC) hosts TCNJ this Wednesday before hitting the road to face Kean in the squad's action of the week.
Both the men's (4-0, 3-0 NJAC) and women's (4-0-1, 3-0-1 NJAC) swimming & diving teams welcome TCNJ to the Tony Lisa Natatorium on Saturday for a big conference matchup.
