GLASSBORO, NJ  – Rowan University swimmer Mike Simunek was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II Men's At-Large Team.  The All-District teams were announced on Thursday.
 
Simunek (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) advances to the Academic All-America ballot.  It is the second straight year that he received All-District II At-Large honors.  In order to be eligible for Academic All-District honors, an athlete must be in at least their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better.    
 
This year, Simunek earned All-America honorable mention in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and as a member of the 400 medley relay.  At the NCAAs, he finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke (55.28) and 16th in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.90).  The 400 medley relay came in 10th with a time of 3:17.39. 
 
Simunek was selected to the NJAC All-Conference first team in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, 200 individual medley and the 200 and 400 medley relays.  This season, he had the team's top times in the 100 breaststroke (55.28), 200 breaststroke (2:02.51), 200 individual medley (1:30.66), 200 medley relay (1:30.66) and 400 medley relay (3:17.39).  Simunek is the school record holder in the 100 (55.28) and 200 (2:02.51) breaststrokes and the 200 individual medley (1:52.38).  He is also a member of the 200 (1:29.98) and 400 (3:17.30) medley relays that have the University marks.      
 
He is the secretary and founder of Society of American Military Engineers and a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Naval Engineers.  Simunek is a Rowan Scholar-Athlete and a SAAC representative.  He graduated with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering.  Simunek has earned Dean's List and Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society honors. 
 
Rowan finished ninth out of 52 teams at the NCAA Championships.  The Profs were 7-2 overall and they captured the NJAC title with a 4-0 mark.  The men took first place at the Metropolitan Championships for the second straight year.
