Women's Basketball Defeats William Paterson, 83-70

GLASSBORO, NJ  – The Rowan University women's basketball team defeated conference opponent William Paterson University, 83-70 on Saturday afternoon.
 
Guard Anyssa Sanchez (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Sterling) recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.  She also collected six assists and five steals.  Guard Samantha Tello (fr. Elmwood Park, NJ/St. Mary's) and guard/forward Alex Raring (jr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) each contributed with 15 points.  It was a career high for Tello and she also had a career best seven boards.  Guard Summer Crilley (jr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) grabbed 10 rebounds, which was a career mark.  Guard Valerie Garafolo (sr. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) dished six assists.
 
The Profs have a 6-1 record and they are 2-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Pioneers are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
 
Guard Julie Rovito (so. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) led William Paterson with 12 points.  Guard Gabby Harris (fr. South River, NJ/South River) and forward Tori Woetzel (jr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) scored 11 points apiece.  Woetzel also totaled 10 rebounds and forward Janea Clark (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) followed with eight.  Guards Kristina Ulrich (fr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) and Jackie Rodriguez (jr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) each added nine points and guard Sihana Asani (so. Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton) had eight.
 
Rowan jumped out to an eight-point lead (10-2) at 8:24 in the first quarter.  Sanchez contributed with five of the 10 points.  Rovito's two foul shots (7:06) pulled William Paterson within six (12-6).  Tello made a layup at 5:15 and the score was 17-7.  The Pioneers trailed 17-12 with 3:57 left.  The Profs followed with an 11-3 run to lead 28-15 at 1:07.  Raring produced five points while guard Alexis Kriley (fr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) added four and guard Mandy Jiang (sr. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had two.  William Paterson pulled within eight points (28-20) at the end of the period after Woetzel's layup (0:40) and Rodriguez's three (0:05).  The Profs increased their lead to 16 (40-24) with 5:01 left in the second stanza after 12 unanswered points.  Sanchez accounted for eight points in the stretch.  Rowan was ahead 46-31 at the break.
 
In the third, Raring nailed a three-pointer (5:10) and the Profs had a 20-point advantage (60-40).  Their biggest lead of the game was 23 (67-44) after two foul shots by Raring (3:34) and Kriley's layup (2:16).  The closest William Paterson came in the final quarter was 10 points (76-66) with a Clark jumper and there was 2:44 on the clock.
 
Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, Dec. 7 for a 6 p.m. conference game.
