GLASSBORO, NJ – The SUNY Geneseo men's cross country team won its second straight team title at the 2016 NCAA Atlantic Region Cross Country Championships hosted by Rowan University.
The Knights dominated the field, scoring 51 points. RPI (87), TCNJ (169), NYU (171) and Oneonta (176) rounded out the top five.
Geneseo's five scorers all placed in the top 20, led by Isaac Garcia-Cassani, who captured his second consecutive individual region crown with a time of 24:15.8 on the 8K course. Alfredo Mazzuca (sixth, 24:35.1), Alex Burks (seventh, 24:38.3), Connor Pulvidente (18
th, 24:57.5) and Travis Briggs (19
th, 24:58.5) all recorded points for the Knights.
RPI's Benjamin Fazio (24:20.5) and Grant O'Connor (24:23.6), St. Lawrence's Thomas Caulfield (24:27.1) and RIT's James Bailey (24:28.3) crossed the finish line second through fifth respectively.
Geneseo and RPI advance to the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday, Nov. 19 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, KY. Sixteen other at-large bids will be awarded from the nation's eight total regions. The top seven individual finishers from each region not on one of the team qualifiers will earn an invitation to the national championships.
