O'Brien Named To Philadelphia Inquirer Women's Lacrosse All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Rowan University midfielder Shannon O’Brien was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Women’s Lacrosse All-Area Team. 

To be nominated, student-athletes must have a 3.2 grade point average (GPA) or higher and be at least a sophomore.  The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

A team captain, O’Brien (sr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) started all 17 games and compiled 131 draw controls, 42 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.  She contributed with six goals and one assist for seven points.  O’Brien was named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Boardwalk All-Region and New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference first teams.  She was chosen to play in the IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star game.  O’Brien was selected to the Capital One/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Women’s At-Large Academic All-District II first team.

O’Brien has a 3.834 GPA and is majoring in elementary education.  She is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Elementary Education Club.  In addition, she serves on the executive board of the Student New Jersey Education Association at the University.  A Rowan Scholar-Athlete, O’Brien was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma College Athlete Honor Society in 2012 and received NJAC All-Academic second team honors.

Rowan ended the year with an 11-6 record and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
