Women's Track & Field Earns Four Individual And Two Relay All-America Honors At NCAA Championships

LA CROSSE, WI - The Rowan University women’s track & field team had four individuals and two relays that earned All-America at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday.  The national championships were held at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Roger Harring Stadium.
 
In the team scoring, Rowan finished 11th overall out of 77 schools that had national qualifiers.  The Profs had a total of 21 points.  The top eight finishers in each event at the  NCAA Championships receive All-America honors.  
 
Brianna Crofton (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) took third place in the 400 meters with a time of 55.68.  Her time improved on the school record of 56.14 that she ran in the prelims on Friday. Ashante Little from Wheaton College (MA) won the 400 meters in 54.79.
 
The 4x100 meter relay finished fourth with Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.), Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick), Shantel Beckford (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and Crofton.  Their time of 46.99 broke the University mark (47.13) they recorded in the prelims.  Wis.-La Crosse was the winner in the 4x100 meter relay with a stadium record time of 45.98. 
 
Vanessa Wright (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) ran 16:41.24 in the 5,000 meters for fourth place.  She broke the school record of 16:41.75 that was held by Jenn Rawls (2010).   Thompson came in sixth (14.67) in the 100 meter hurdles.  Wis.-Oshkosh’s Christy Cazzola took first in the 5,000 meters with a stadium record time of 16:31.17 and Illinois College’s Melissa Norville won the 100 meter hurdles in 13.93. 
 
Melissa Lake (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) finished eighth in the javelin for her second straight All-America honor.  She had a throw of 137’ 6” (41.92 meters).  Last year, she came in eighth with 138’ 5” (42.20 meters).  Sarah Dores (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) was 13th in the javelin with 130’ 5” (39.75 meters).  George Fox’s Beth Stam was the winner in the javelin with a stadium record of 156’ 2” (47.60 meters).      
 
The 4x400 meter relay finished eighth with a time of 3:48.02.  The relay consisted of Crofton, Joyce Perry (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick), Williams and Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison).  On Thursday in the prelims, they ran 3:45.24 which improved on their school record.  Wis.-La Crosse was the winner of the 4x400 meter relay in 3:43.52.
 
Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton) finished 16th in the triple jump with 37’ 4” (11.38 meters).  Illinois College’s Melissa Norville won the triple jump with a distance of 41’ 11.25” (12.78 meters).
