Rooks And 4x400 Meter Relay Qualify For Final At NCAA Championships

LA CROSSE, WI – Rowan University’s Demetrius Rooks and the 4x400 meter relay advance to the finals at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday.  The three-day championships are being held at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Roger Harring Stadium.

On Thursday, Rooks (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) won heat two of the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 51.64.  He has the top time among the nine qualifiers for Saturday’s final at 5:55 p.m.  At the 2012 NCAA Championships, Rooks finished second with a school record time of 51.25.  He also earned All-America honors in 2011 with a second place in 51.98.

The 4x400 meter relay qualified for Saturday’s championship at 7:30 p.m.  Rowan had a time of 3:14.082 and edged Williams College (3:14.088) for the ninth and last spot.  Brandon Taylor (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown), Taylor Purdue (sr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Ali Ejaz (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Rooks were on the 4x400.  Wis.-Eau Claire has the top time of 3:10.13.  The Profs were the 4x400 meter relay national champion in 2012 and 2011 with times of 3:10.56 and 3:11.45 respectively.

The 4x100 meter relay finished 13th in the prelims with a time of 41.66.  The 4x100 included Taylor, Tyler Coulbourn (fr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.), Frank Rubino (fr. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) and Ejaz.

Ejaz had qualified for the 200 meters but had a false start in heat one.  This was his second time at the NCAAs in the 200 meters.  In 2012, he finished fourth in 21.304 for All-America honors.
