Rowan Men Win CTC Indoor Track Championships

MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Rowan University men’s indoor track team won the Collegiate Track Conference Championships on Saturday.  The Profs totaled 134.50 points among 18 schools.  The championships were held at Wesleyan University.

Rowan took first place in all four relays.  The 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays had winning times of 1:32.47 and 3:22.73.  Both relays qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships (4x200 – 1:34.00, 4x400 – 3:26.50).  The 4x200 meter relay included Brandon Taylor (jr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown), Phil Guilford (fr. Atlantic City, NJ/Buena Reg.), Taylor Purdue (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) and Jayce Maxwell (sr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan).  Maxwell, Purdue, Ali Ejaz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Demetrius Rooks (jr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) were on the 4x400 meter relay.  The 4x800 meter relay finished first (8:14.83) with Mike Lewis (fr. Glen Mills, NJ/Downingtown W.), Jesse Spector (fr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills), Dave Quimby (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Mike Carotenuto (jr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.). 

The distance medley relay won in 10:35.97 and qualified for ECACs (10:38.00).  Rob Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Triton Reg.), Guilford, Eric DuBois (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) and Carotenuto made up the relay.  DuBois ran 15:04.03 for first place in the 5000 meters and qualified for the ECAC Championships (15:20.00).  Carotenuto was the winner (4:18.27) in the one mile followed by Rawls second (4:18.42).  They both had times better than the ECAC requirement of 4:22.00. 

Rooks captured second (49.61) in the 400 meters and he had a ECAC qualifying time (50.70).  In the 3000 meters, Stephen Hoffman (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) and Ethan Wolmark (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) finished second (9:12.06) and third (9:18.79) respectively.  Ejaz came in second (22.98) in the 200 meters while Maxwell was fourth (23.12).  Adam Diekewicz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) was second in the pole vault with a height of 14’ 5.25” (4.40 meters).

Lewis finished fourth (2:00.74) in the 800 meters while Quimby was seventh (2:03.57).  Taylor had a fifth place (7.24) in the 60 meters.  Frank Visconti (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) had a toss of 45’ 10.50” (13.98 meters) for fifth in the shot put.  Spector took sixth place (2:44.09) in the 1000 meters and Jon Sewnig (fr. Yardville, NJ/Notre Dame) was 10th (2:52.55).  Josh McGriff  (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) came in seventh (1:09.63) in the 500 meters. 

In the 5000 meters, Jeff Tauriello (so. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) and Jake McCormack (sr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) were seventh (16:07.30) and 11th (16:18.29) respectively.  Joe Mineo (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) finished seventh in the high jump with 6’ 0” (1.83 meters).  Jack Curry (so. Roosevelt, NJ/Hightstown) took 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 38’ 11.75” (11.88 meters). 

Next, Rowan will compete at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, February 18 at 11 a.m.
