GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team defeated Salisbury University, 80-55 in a nonconference game on Monday night.

Forward Michelle Lala (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) led the Profs with a career-high 23 points and forward Amanda Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) followed with 22. Jennings also grabbed six rebounds. Guard Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) contributed with 15 points and eight boards. Guard Alissa Lamey (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) dished 12 assists which tied her career-mark.

The Profs have a 13-7 record while the Sea Gulls drop to 7-11 on the season. For Salisbury, guard Glen Charlton (so. Landover, MD/Duval) scored 16 points. Forward Kylie Hall (sr. Baltimore, MD/Landsdowne) registered 15 points and a game-high 15 boards.

Rowan started the game with an 11-4 run in 3:45. Catanzariti scored five points, Lala followed with four and Jennings had two. Salisbury pulled within four points (15-11) at 13:49 after a jumper by Charlton. Jennings (12:14) and Lala (11:59) each had a basket that increased the lead to eight points (19-11). Catanzariti’s jumper at 10:55 made the score 23-13. The Sea Gulls rallied with six straight points and trailed by four (23-19) with 9:28 remaining. Charlton contributed with four points and Hall had two.

Rowan was ahead 29-21 after Lala’s layup at 6:52. Guard Chante’ McKinney’s (jr. Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) basket cut the deficit to six points (31-25) with 3:31 left. The Profs ended the period with seven unanswered points for a 13 point advantage (38-25). Lala totaled 16 first half points while Charlton scored 14.

In the second stanza, Rowan jumped out to an 18 point lead (45-27) after a 7-2 spurt that ended at 17:48. Jennings scored four points and Catanzariti had three. Lala’s layup at the 14 minute mark put the Profs up 54-32. Salisbury came within 17 points (57-40) at 9:23 after forward Janay Johnson’s (sr. Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) jumper. Catanzariti nailed a three-pointer for a 24 point advantage (68-44) with 6:23 remaining. The Profs led by 27 points (72-45) after Jenning’s basket at 3:40. Guard K.C. Curran (so. Malvern, PA/Great Valley) hit a three (2:38) and Salisbury trailed 74-52. Rowan closed out the game with a 6-3 run.

Rowan returns to its conference schedule on Wednesday, February 3 against The College of New Jersey at 6 p.m.
