NJCBA All-State and All-Rookie Teams
GLASSBORO, NJ – Five Rowan University baseball players earned New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III All-State honors.
First baseman
Tom Ready (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) was selected to the All-State first team. Right fielder
John McMullin (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and right-hander
Todd Burdette (so. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) were chosen to the second team, while righty
Mike Swietanski (so. Woodbury, NJ/West Deptford) earned third team honors. Shortstop
Marc Magliaro (fr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) was named to the All-Rookie Team.
A co-captain, Ready led the Profs with 34 runs scored. He was second on the team with 36 RBIs and third with a .365 batting average. Ready’s extra base hits include eight doubles and four home runs. He had a team best 224 putouts and a .983 fielding percentage. Ready received New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference first team honors. This is his third All-State selection. Last season, Ready earned All-State second team honors and he was chosen to the first team in 2007.
McMullin was tied for first on the squad with a .385 batting average. He compiled a team best 45 RBIs, 13 doubles and a .547 slugging percentage. He also posted 28 runs scored, three home runs and one triple. McMullin was named to the NJAC All-Conference second team and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)-Rawlings Mid-Atlantic All-Region third team. He collected NJCBA All-State first team honors in 2008.
This year, Burdette served as the team’s closer. He registered a 1-2 record with a 5.02 earned run average (ERA) in 15 appearances. Burdette tied the school mark for saves in a season with nine. He struck out 18 batters in 14.1 innings. In 2008, Burdette was a member of the NJCBA All-Rookie Team.
A starter, Swietanski went 4-1 with a 4.18 ERA in eight games. He tallied 30 strikeouts in 47.1 innings on the mound. This is his first All-State honor. In his rookie season, Magliaro batted .292 with 17 runs scored, 11 RBIs and one double. He had a team-high 87 assists and 37 putouts for a .912 field percentage.
Rowan finished the season with a 21-15-1 record and advanced to the NJAC Championship Tournament.
